Soft-bristled toothbrush — Hold the brush in your hand like you would for cleaning windows. Do you feel it is comfortable? You should have it, especially if there are many windows in your house.

How to Clean Exterior Windows

  1. Mix the cleaning solution. For a soapy cleaner, add one teaspoon dishwashing liquid for every two gallons hot water. Do not add more soap. The more soap you use, the more residue will remain. Mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of water if you are using white vinegar.
  2. To remove dirt and webs from your window, use the soft-bristled toothbrush.
  3. Then dip the strip applicator into the cleaning solution and then squeeze out any excess solution.
  4. Use the strip applicator to scrub the glass, then switch to the nylon scrubbing pads if necessary to remove any dirt or debris.
  5. Clean the windows with a squeegee. Depending on your preference, you can do this in various ways. Some prefer to start at the top and pull the tool down straight down, while others prefer working horizontally. Others use the reverse-S method to open up windows of solution. You can try each method to find the one that works best for you. However, use a damp squeegee to prevent blade skipping and overlap passes. After each swipe, wipe it clean with a lint-free towel.
  6. Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe off any lint from the frames and panes.

To prevent any water from splashing on your floors, place a towel under the windows when washing them.

Each side of your window should take between 5-10 minutes. You may consider outsourcing cleaning if you have many windows or multiple stories. A ladder can be hazardous for someone not experienced in it. You may also have other ideas to use your time.
