As part of the Summer 2016 Cooking with Kids with 3 Princesses and 1 Dude, we have made a Delicious Dinosaur Dinner. This is a recipe that children can make with very little adult support. All recipes are dairy free but you can substitute the soya products with dairy ones, if you wish. Both children really enjoy anything with a dinosaur theme so they were very excited about having a special dinosaur dinner.
Cooking with Kids: Delicious Dinosaur Dinner
Lava Smoothie Recipe
150g frozen black forest fruits or frozen raspberries for a more red colour
120ml vanilla soya yoghurt or plain soya yoghurt with added vanilla essence
100ml cold water
1tsp chia seeds
1. Tip the frozen black forest fruits into the food processor.
2. Add the cold water and mix. Make sure an adult is supervising when using a food processor or blender. We always unplug it until it is needed.
3. Spoon in the soya yoghurt and chia seeds. Mix using the food processor.
4. Pour into two large tumblers.
Dinosaur Sandwich Scene
As H is starting school soon, we have been practicing her skills with cutlery, ready for her school meals. She sometimes finds it tricky to use a knife so making jam sandwiches is a fantastic way for her to polish up her skills in this area. This activity can also help with listening and following instructions skills. We used this dinosaur sandwich cutter to make it much more fun. There were some crusts left over but S and H made sure they snacked on them while preparing their delicious dinosaur sandwiches.
The Complete Delicious Dinosaur Dinner
After picking strawberries from the garden, H used these as well as blueberries and spinach leaves to make a pre-historic scene for her dinosaur sandwiches. These went very well with her lava smoothie. S, on the other hand, didn’t manage to actually make a scene as he ate his straight away!
Other Dinosaur Recipes and Ideas: Muddy Cakes, Volcanic Ice Lollies and
You could also make some chocolate cakes, with gooey icing. You can find the recipe here. Those pesky dinosaurs walked all of the way through the muddy goo though last time we did this.
These Volcanic Ice Lollies are perfect for a hot day. You can make a variety of different flavours using the base ingredients on this recipe. We made four different types of ice lolly when we made these. They were a great addition to our Delicious Dinosaur Dinner.
