We all long for clear and glowing skin, with a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles; it’s the holy grail, right? Beauty may only be skin deep, but healthy and radiant skin not only looks great, but its also a reflection of our inner health and wellbeing. Lets take a look at five easy things that we can all do to help our skin look its best, without spending a fortune.
1. Cleanse, tone, moisturise
We have all heard this mantra many times, but is it that important? It really, really is. A good cleanser, whether you use water or not, is essential. It cleanses the skin (obviously!), and removes make up and excess oils. Your moisturiser protects your skin, balances if oily, re-hydrates if dry, and also offers anti ageing benefits. Your toner is the link between the two. Cleansing upsets the PH balance of your skin, and can also dry it out. Toner prepares your skin for the moisturising process and balances the PH levels.
2. Stay sun safe
We all adore the sun and having a bit of a natural tan, but its damaging effects on the skin can be huge. You must wear some sun protection on your face every day, from either a separate facial sunblock product, or by using a foundation with an SPF. Facial sunblocks have come a long way in recent years, and there are some out there even for those with oily or sensitive skin.
3. Healthy inside, healthy outside
What you put inside your body will show on the outside. Eat to get great skin by increasing the levels of omega 3, 6 and 9 in your diet, or even take a good, food derived hair, skin and nails supplement. Drink plenty of water to keep your body and skin hydrated.
4. Give up smoking
Smoking plays havoc with our skin. Not only does it cause premature ageing by the toxins in the smoke, the actual action of smoking creates fine lines round the lips. If you are struggling to give up, try switching to e-cigarettes, as they do not cause the same damage to the skin.
5. Treat yourself and your skin
A weekly scrub and mask should be part of everyone’s routine. A scrub to remove the dead, dull skin from the surface, and a deep replenishing mask to rejuvenate your skin. Try facial massage too, for a relaxing, pampering way to glowing skin.
